In her exhibition "Quader, Bricks, Loyalty, Heavenly Noblesse...", Valentina Triet presents five new sculptural works. The sculptures consist of different arrangements of bricks painted monochromatically in green, black, and white, taking the shape of a tower, a pyramid, a flat arch, a sort of triptych, and a trampled trail. Some stones have ink drawings on the sides, adding to the overall composition.
Triet's interest in mood boards, akin to collage, lies in their capacity to link disparate elements without initial coherence and visually convey affective aspects. This collaboration with Diana Bulzan explores the relationship between textuality and visuality, complicating the point of artistic creation.
The text accompanying the exhibition reflects on disloyalty as a form of resistance, contrasting it with loyalty as a strong affirmation of identity. It concludes with a personal anecdote from the Romanian revolution in 1989, symbolizing the preservation of revolutionary time.
David Getsy's concept of performativity in sculpture, characterized by stillness and motionlessness, resonates with Triet's works. The sculptures' shallow height establishes a connection to the viewer's corporeality, inviting negotiation between the moving body and the motionless sculpture.
