Exhibition Description:

What lies behind the apparent banality of an abandoned, crumpled and inert sheet in a hotel room? Objects pile up, accumulate and become impregnated with emotions. In a world hypnotized by efficiency, order, and functionality, these objects turn out to be silent interruptions - traces of moments that escape the linearity of time, of utility. By exploring a floating and mysterious temporality, the exhibition monday's ghost brings together the practices of Nina Rieben (BS/BE) and Leanne Picthall (VD), combining painting and installation, to investigate the intimate and often complex relationships we have with objects. Leanne Picthall (*1999) was born in Grenolier, Switzerland, and grew up in the countryside around Nyon, where she currently lives and works. Graduated with a bachelor's degree in June 2023 from HEAD Geneva (Haute École d'Art et de Design), her main practice is oil painting. The work of Leanne Picthall deals with sensations, specifically those emotions that are sometimes difficult to describe, falling somewhere between positive and negative. Through self-portraits and surrounding elements, she clarifies these sensations, often starting with a staged image or one from her library, refining it through color palette, brushstroke, or adding elements to the painting itself to create a desired atmosphere, often strange due to the conflicting nature she aims to evoke. Nina Rieben (*1992) lives and works in Basel and Bern, CH. With a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from the Bern University of the Arts and a Master's in Fine Arts from the Institute Art Gender Nature (FHNW) in Basel. Fragments of emotions and stories form the artistic starting points of Nina Rieben's work, focusing on anecdotal narratives of states of being. Her pieces revolve around personal, everyday, and romantic feelings within the context of Western ideologies and capitalist realities. Rieben's interest lies in an ambivalent state that combines assertion and doubt, sensuality and irony, oscillating between pathos and emptiness, describing it as a "Romance of Uncertainty."
