Nathalie Du Pasquier and Olivier Mosset at Kunsthaus Biel

Olivier Mosset (*1944) is a central figure in post-war abstract painting and a key reference for several generations of European and American painters. Nathalie Du Pasquier (*1957) worked as a designer at the Memphis group in Milan until 1987 and has since focused mainly on painting. Although their works are very different, these two internationally recognized artists share a common attitude that combines an interest in the history of avant-gardes with a playful spirit. The invitation to exhibit together sparks a discussion about abstract painting: its historical burden, decorative horizon, "commodification," or its relationship to language.

Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys Impressions de Biel

The Belgian duo Jos de Gruyter (*1965) & Harald Thys (*1966) occupy the large Salle Poma and evoke a nightmarish world populated by strange creatures. In recent years, the two artists have worked extensively with models or puppets. These weathered, assembled objects play a central role in their artistic practice: they are the remnants of a complex human existence and, if lucky, find their final stop in a dusty second-hand store before withering away completely. All the works shown at Kunsthaus Biel are interconnected and function like an old automated Swiss clock programmed according to a encrypted script.

Mathias C. Pfund with fondest regards

With "with fondest regards," Mathias C. Pfund (*1992) undertakes an artistic intervention related to the 2023 donation by Mary Ann and Hal Glicksman to Kunsthaus Biel. The artist specifically examines two works in fluorescent tubes by Dan Flavin: Untitled (For Mary Ann & Hal with Fondest Regards) 1 & 2 (1976). This case study is based on various source materials and takes shape through Mathias C. Pfund's diverse artistic gestures.
