Timo Vogel at Kunsthalle Luzern

The Kunsthalle Luzern presents Timo Vogel, a promising newcomer, in a solo exhibition titled "Unstable Conditions." Vogel explores the fragility of societal norms with a sharp stroke, mysterious scenes, and a tendency towards exaggeration. Themes of eroticism, gender, and Central Swiss traditions collide, while masquerade and symbolism push the boundaries between reality and fiction. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, and object art, Vogel creates a fascinating visual world that both disturbs and seduces.

Exploration of Norms and Traditions

Timo Vogel raises questions about the stability of the norms we rely on, the traditions that shape our views of identity, desire, and gender, and the consequences when these orders are disrupted. His visual language oscillates between seduction and irritation, blending humor and disturbance, familiarity and strangeness, and known visual worlds with uniquely distorted interpretations.

Vogel's works touch on isolation, violence, death, desire, and lust as recurring themes. They speak of prohibition and longing, the tension between social control and individual freedom, employing exaggeration and subversive humor. By distorting and placing various visual worlds in unexpected contexts, Vogel challenges notions of authenticity, identity, and the norms that define what is considered normal.
