Exhibition Title: "Samuli Blatter and Martin Chramosta at Produzentengalerie"
Subtitle: "Groupshow «Beige Metal»"
BEIGE METAL. This alloy – shaded by the anthracite of graphite and the faded white of plaster, wax and soil – pervades through the works of Basel based artists Samuli Baltter (*1986) and Martin Chramosta (*1982) like veins: cuttings, carvings, lines, furrows or brows, reminiscent of landscapes of illegible maps, tell fictional stories of fantasy and delicacy as a manic gesture of sign and significance. While the graphite drawings of Blatter allow the viewer to dive into the image from an outside perspective in order to physically recreate their formation processes, the grooves and hatches of the structure reliefs of Chramosta seem to lead our gaze from the inner image to the outside world. As if we found ourselves in the inner membrane of the plaster plate. A changing image? A mirror surface?
The exhibition at Alpineum Produzentengalerie presents two unique artistic visions unified by an interest in the physical density of the material and driven by the ambition to explore drawing as a medium oscillating between formal rigor and precise vagueness.
