Raphael Stucky's exhibition "RO-RO-ROTATE" at Le Manoir de la Ville de Martigny presents works specially produced for the occasion. Stucky's works, spanning video, performance, installation, sculpture, painting, drawing, and music, exude delicacy and intensity, transcending boundaries with a unique vocabulary applied across different techniques. The artist's interest in the mysterious and the in-between is evident in his works, which he intertwines to create perceptible yet enigmatic connections, inviting viewers to construct their own narratives from the fragments he offers.
The title "RO-RO-ROTATE" alludes to movement and music, significant sources of inspiration for Stucky. The exhibition indirectly embodies the sounds created by human and natural movements, forming an underlying musical thread throughout the works. Pieces like "Lichtkörper" with neon, paper, textile, and metal, and "Language of a Strassenmusikant" in leather, evoke a sense of luminous fragility and abstract composition, drawing on influences from various artistic movements.
Stucky's exploration of music and sound is evident in his series of small instinctively modeled clay sculptures, blurring the boundaries between human and animal sounds with a touch of humor. The artist's foray into painting during the lockdown resulted in works like "PAC 2, 4, 8 (Possible Album Cover)" in acrylic on canvas, capturing movement and process through layered textures and structures.
The exhibition also features "Lichtwörter," small lamps on cardboard with smartphone photo transparencies as lampshades, creating a temporary installation that transforms a transitional space into a warm, personal environment. Stucky's ability to repurpose industrial lamps into poetic, abstract compositions reflects his playful approach to creating connections and similarities rather than distinctions.
