"Silver Lakes" Exhibition
Renaissance picture galleries, filled with painted images of princes, Greek deities, and naked women, have a long history of reflecting the image of man. Klaus Theweleit suggests that the invention of large-scale mirrors changed this dynamic, allowing for a more accurate reflection of the self. The Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, with its silver-backed glass, exemplifies this shift towards mirrors as the new medium for self-reflection. Art, which once depicted the human body in rigid postures, now had the freedom to explore new physical contexts and emotions through pigment and light. The emergence of new technologies like phonographs and computers further expanded the possibilities for artistic expression, freeing literature from traditional narratives and opening up new sensory experiences. In the exhibition "Silver Lakes," artists Paul Czerlitzki, Anna Fehr, and Elin Gonzalez explore these themes of reflection, new media, and ephemeral sensuality. Through their works, they invite viewers to contemplate the changing relationship between art, technology, and the self.
