Exhibition Description
Marie Matusz and Matthias Schaufler present "Punk Delikatessen" at Suns Works. The exhibition delves into the concept of double liabilities, exploring the idea of perceiving one's dog's activities from its own perspective. This leads to reflections on small transgressions, moments of self-identification, and the balance between inner and outer restraints. The artworks in the exhibition embody a performative act that describes physicality and self-surrender within defined frameworks. The exhibition contrasts the pleasure of truffle pigs with the pleasure of a dog, highlighting the sublimation of desire through confirmation and praise. The use of a muzzle as a fashionable signifier becomes a symbol of bondage and liberation, cutting off vital functions while enhancing physicality. The inner, conceptual leash is a central motif in the exploration of self-imposed programs and the conscious repetitions and rotations within artistic practice. Punk Delikatessen is not just an attitude but a problem to be explored. It involves external criticism as self-criticism, recursive double loops, and self-intertwining. Marie Matusz, born in Toulouse, France, and based in Basel, questions theories of power, desire, time, and space through her artistic practice. Matthias Schaufler, living between Berlin and Donegal, has developed his painting practice in various forms, influenced by his studies with renowned artists. Both artists bring a unique perspective to the exploration of boundaries and constraints in the context of Punk Delikatessen.
