Exhibition Overview

The artist Lorenza Longhi, winner of the 14th Manor Art Prize in the canton of Zurich, challenges common notions of originality, luxury, and functionality through her art. At the Kunst Museum Winterthur, she presents a new series of screen prints that blend elements of pop art, minimalism, and institutional criticism.

Artistic Approach

Longhi's works feature abstract flowers with camera lenses piercing their centers, symbolizing surveillance capitalism and consumer culture. She combines industrial printing techniques with intentional irregularities to disrupt the notion of perfection in art objects. By using unframed screen printing mesh as a tool, she questions the value of originality and luxury in artistic creations.

Artist Background

Born in Lecco, Italy, in 1991, Lorenza Longhi studied in Milan and Lausanne. Her work has been showcased in solo exhibitions at various institutions, showcasing a blend of institutional critique from the 1990s and contemporary DIY strategies. Oscillating between homage and satire, Longhi deconstructs everyday conventions, monocultures, and societal notions of taste and prestige.

Manor Art Prize

The Manor Art Prize, a significant award for contemporary Swiss art, was established in 1982 to support young Swiss artists. Awarded annually by a panel of experts, the prize has been a stepping stone for many artists towards international recognition. The 14th edition in the canton of Zurich continues the tradition of promoting emerging talent in the Swiss art scene.
