Bea Schlingelhoff's series, soft mime win, on display at Cherish in Geneva, delves into the significance of signatures in the art world. These documents, signed by all parties involved, serve as critiques of the art market's commodification of art.
Through soft mime win, Schlingelhoff challenges the historical constraints faced by women and gender-non-confirming artists in the art world. By examining the relationship between gender, subjectivity, and artistic production, the series offers a sensitive deconstruction of prevailing norms. Drawing inspiration from Jamaican essayist Sylvia Wynter, the exhibition aims to dismantle traditional notions of human subjectivity and economic value within the art field.
